The Foundation for Safety in Skiing is not only committed to research and knowledge dissemination, but also provides targeted incentives for further development and quality assurance in winter sports. By presenting awards, it supports scientific research and innovative projects that make a lasting contribution to safety, health, and environmental sustainability in snow sports.
In addition to supporting research and innovation, the foundation also awards designations that serve as seals of quality for particularly safe, service-oriented, and sustainable offerings in winter sports. These include, for example, the designations “certified ski resorts,” “cross-country-friendly facilities,” and “Noridsch-certified ski rental.” These certifications are based on clearly defined criteria and regular inspections to ensure a high level of quality and safety for guests and winter sports enthusiasts.

Description
As part of the “Certified Nordic Ski Rental” certification program, SIS has been recognizing ski rental shops that offer high-quality and safe cross-country skiing equipment since the 2013–14 winter season. To receive the certification, businesses must meet a series of requirements, including expert advice, a well-maintained selection of cross-country skis, boots, and poles, as well as professional fitting of the equipment to customers’ individual needs. Additional requirements include the option to exchange rental equipment free of charge, a storage facility for equipment that includes boot drying, the disinfection of ski boots, free ski waxing, and a money-back guarantee.

Description
As part of the “Cross-Country Ski-Friendly Establishments” certification program, SIS has been recognizing cross-country ski-friendly establishments that meet specific quality and safety standards since the 2013–14 winter season. To earn this designation, lodging establishments must meet numerous requirements. These include a lockable ski storage room, a drying room for clothing and equipment, a waxing station, and a willingness to accommodate cross-country skiers even for just one night. In addition, staff must possess specialized knowledge of cross-country skiing, a special cross-country breakfast must be offered, and partnerships with ski schools and ski rental shops are required. In addition to the minimum requirements, at least three additional optional criteria must be met to receive the designation.

Description
As part of the certification program, SIS has been recognizing ski resorts that meet specific quality and safety standards since the 2009/2010 winter season. The certification establishes uniform standards and provides guests with reliable guidance. An inspection committee of approximately 20 members evaluates the resort, a process that can take several days, depending on the size of the area. After a successful inspection, the resorts receive the respective certification for three years. Regular inspections ensure that the criteria continue to be met.

Description
The DSV nordic aktiv trails and centers designated by the SIS are sports areas that offer (year-round) opportunities to participate in Nordic sports. A concept has been developed for each sport and the local natural conditions, based on which trails are certified, mapped using geographic information systems, and signposted. Visitor flow is managed with ecological parameters in mind to protect wildlife habitats and vegetation.
