SIS is committed to improving safety both on and off the slopes. Through targeted measures, it raises awareness of accident prevention among winter sports enthusiasts and specialty retailers.

The Foundation for Safety in Skiing has been committed to accident prevention and the promotion of safety in winter sports for many years. Its work is aimed at both winter sports enthusiasts and specialty retailers and encompasses a broad range of preventive measures. We always take a systemic approach to safety—viewing it as the interplay of technology, behavior, terrain, and the environment.

At the SIS Safety Days, visitors are made aware of safe behavior right on the slopes. Another focus is on proper binding adjustment, as correct settings can prevent injuries. To enhance the quality of advice provided by specialty sports retailers, the SIS offers targeted expert training. It also provides information on the FIS rules of conduct, which promote considerate interaction on the slopes. SIS also carries out educational work in the area of avalanche safety.

"The Advisory Board for Law and Safety covers a broad spectrum of topics: from the formulation of codes of conduct to the question of which safety measures are legally enforceable, to providing guidance on training and continuing education programs.
In doing so, it has established groundbreaking legal frameworks and standards. Of particular importance was—and remains—the development of the ‘Ten Commandments of Skiing,’ which were later incorporated into the FIS rules. Since then, they have served as a global benchmark for fair and responsible behavior on the slopes and have had a lasting impact on the sport of skiing."
