As a center of excellence for winter sports safety, SIS combines research, training, and operational measures into a comprehensive safety approach.
Through the DSV Ski Patrol, we ensure a presence and provide assistance on ski slopes and cross-country trails. Our analysis center, ASU Ski, provides sound insights into accident prevention, which are directly incorporated into preventive measures, training practices, and equipment development.
In the areas of avalanche safety and skiTEST, we actively shape the further development of technologies and equipment. Through training and education, we promote personal responsibility among all winter sports enthusiasts and offer insurance tailored to specific target groups. In doing so, we always take a systemic approach to safety—viewing it as the interplay of technology, behavior, terrain, and the environment.
“With its extensive expertise in accident prevention, research, and public education, the foundation sets the standard and perfectly complements the work of its partners on the board of trustees. It ensures that safety in winter sports remains a top priority and is implemented in a practical manner.”
Thomas Holz, Member of the State Parliament
(President of the Bavarian Board of Trustees for Alpine Safety e.V.)

As part of the certification program, SIS has been recognizing ski resorts that meet specific quality and safety standards since the 2009/2010 winter season. The certification establishes uniform standards and provides guests with reliable guidance. An inspection committee of approximately 20 members evaluates the resort, a process that can take several days, depending on the size of the area. After a successful inspection, the resorts receive the respective certification for three years. Regular inspections ensure that the criteria continue to be met.
